The intro and outro of the movie include a voice - over by Nicole Kidman , during which she utter about how lucky she feels to live in a home like Holland . In addition to that , several key plot points bind into the town and culture of Holland .
Holland , Michigan , is therefore integral to the story ofHolland , but most of the picture was actually filmed in Nashville , Tennessee . In fact , all but two daylight of filming and one key tantrum later on in the movie took place in Nashville , which is also where the starring actress , Kidman , happens to endure with her married man and kid . Whether or not this proximity played a part is unclear , but it does mean that most of the movie was n’t actually in Holland at all .
Holland is a strange new thriller , unsettling and humorous in equal measure , and anchored by another stellar performance from Nicole Kidman .
Among the scenes take in Nashville were the internal scenes of Nancy ’s theatre ; however , those scenes were n’t solely devoid of connection to the substantial Holland . They then used what they saw in Holland to key a house in Nashville that would work for the motion picture .

To make this scene run , some storefront were give alternate names to comfortably reflect the Holland , Michigan , setting and the era ( the 1980s ) . tulip were also lend to the scenes during the festival to fit the real fete in Holland .

Althoughcritics are divided onHolland , the sets are visually sensational .
