The music director of DC ’s upcomingShazamthinks he ’s a good match for the film and say he hopes to announce the cast before long . The DCEU has had all sorts of hassle getting their various share universe properties to the prominent screen in the past , but thecontinued achiever ofWonder Womanseems to have reinvigorated them . WhileShazamhas long held a release date in 2019 , little tidings has come forth about the project over the years . That all change a few weeks ago , however , when David F. Sandberg wasconfirmed as the film ’s director .
Best known for the indie horror filmLights Outand the upcomingThe ConjuringspinoffAnnabelle : Creation , Sandberg will certainly be switching tonal gears . Like James Gunn before him , Sandberg will be moving from abject - budget horror to a fun , crowing budget , spectacle motion-picture show . And so far , he ’s showing he has the light-hearted approach necessary to handlethe wish - fulfillment character . In the time since he was announced as the film director ofShazam , he ’s alreadyjoked about the hero ’s costumeand teaseda humourous battlebetween the supporter and Superman . But he ’s also had more serious things to say about the project .
Speaking withET , Sandberg enjoin casting announcements forShazamshould be forthcoming . When asked when fans can expect any news on that front , he respond " hopefully soon . " He also touched on his chronicle with the character Shazam and why it make him a just choice to helm the movie .
" To be honest , it was not a superhero I grew up with either . When I rise up in Sweden , there was n’t a lot of Shazam around . So it ’s someone who I ’ve learned to love later in life as well , so I can relate to [ mass who are ] Modern to Shazam . I think [ it ] might be a undecomposed thing that I ’m doing it , because I know what you need to study . "
Of naturally , even in the States , Shazam is n’t a super well - know type . And while Sandberg did n’t grow up with the hero , he seems to indicate he became conversant with him before he was chosen for the celluloid . Still , fans often care when a Divine is n’t verse in the fabric they ’re adapting . Luckily , Sandberg brings up a good point that we have n’t really heard before in regards to coming to the material fresh .
Like Sandberg , most audiences wo n’t sleep together who Shazam is or what he ’s about . Because the film director is new to the hero , however , he ’ll be able to navigate the most important aspects of Shazam ’s story for newcomers . While that ’s not a guarantee he ’ll nail the timber of the character or get his backstory right , it ’s a serious mansion . Besides , Shazam ’s history isrife with complications and retconsanyway .
With the motion picture said to be the next DCEU film togo into production , we should retain learning more about the labor in the weeks to come . And with a spring 2019 release date , it wo n’t be too much longer until a cast and synopsis arrive forShazam .
