Reacher

word of advice : Major spoilers for Reacher season 3 , episode 7 " L.A. Story " below!Duffy eventually had it withReacher’s"semantics bulls * * * " on the late episode , and it ’s skillful to see him get called out on it . The prayer ofLee Child’sJack Reachernovelsis that the main character is both fiercely intelligentandable to snap limbs at a import ’s notice . Reacher might not be keen with passing chitchat or social norms , but is able to believe his way out of danger in ( almost ) every setting . Reacher is smart and he knows it - which can be one of his most irritating traits .

Reacher can weaponize his intelligence operation for both goodandbad . As Alan Ritchson himself put it during anEmpireinterview , “ He ’s an a * * * * * * ! He ’s smart enough to make somebody palpate very small , not because of his size but because of his intelligence operation . " He ’s a particular devotee of disceptation semantics , which can be found in the very first episode whenReacher posit he ’s a hobo or else of a vagrant . His natural pedanticness annoyed Finlay ( Malcolm Goodwin ) to no destruction throughout season 1 , and Agent Duffy ( Sonya Cassidy ) called him out on it during time of year 3 ’s " L.A. Story . "

After a fantastic start , Reacher time of year 3 starts to fall behind momentum in its next-to-last sequence " L.A. Story " , raise the stake for next workweek ’s finale .

The end ofReacher’s"L.A. Story"sees Jack fix to snipe his mortal enemy Quinn during an exchange . This is after Duffy impart the ATF into her operation , but the thought of Quinn just go to prison is unacceptable to Reacher . As he assembles a massive sniper rifle he bought from a pawn shop , he and Duffy get into an logical argument about his programme . She retrieve Reacher saying he understood her position regarding Quinn ’s arrest , but in classic Reacher fashion , he responded " I did understand it . I just do n’t jibe with it . "

This causes an understandably furious Duffy to bite back with " Do n’t pull in Reacher semantics bulls * * * with me!“While Reacher ’s drug abuse of wrench people ’s password can be cunning , pull that move as he plans to mess up Quinn ’s straits off is an obnoxious one . Finlay may have called him out on smartassery several clip during the first season , but " L.A. Story " is the first time a character reference has put a recording label on it .

Reacherstar Sonya Cassidy ’s old TV credits includeThe Man Who fall to Earth , Lodge 49and season 5 ofThe Last Kingdom .

Reacher ’s bluntness and disposition to patronise can be a freehanded root of humorbut it can also be his most nettlesome queerness . At least the showrunners are self - aware enough to point this out , specially as it comes during one of the most striking moment of the season .

Season 3’s “Reacher Semantics” Line Proves Duffy Is The Perfect Match For Jack Reacher

Duffy is Reacher’s first romantic interest to call him out on his nonsense

Duffy calling out one of Reacher ’s bad habit underlines what time of year 3 has shown about her clock time and again : she ’s Reacher ’s equal . This could see in their first meeting in " Persuader , " whereDuffy predicted Reacher would jump out his hotel window to avoid run into DEA agents and was already waiting for him ; she also calls him out on his stubbornness , and for " respond questions like an a * * * * * * . "

Duffy is done with " Reacher ’s semantics " and self - justification for blowing her operation to get revenge …

" L.A. Story " see them in conclusion act on their mutual attraction , but theirs is no great love story . They share similar morals and codes , but Duffy is in full aware of Reacher ’s vigilante ways and calls out his " bulls***“when she enamour him devise his rifle . He may have been invaluable to her operation , butDuffy has had to put up with Reacher ’s smug observation and bending ( or outright break ) of the rules too .

She ’s done with " Reacher ’s semantics " and self - justification for blowing her performance to gain revenge - even though killing Quinn sound like a smart move in the long run . It ’s dubious the time of year 3 finale will feature Duffy and Reacher riding off together , but they ’ve made a sport duo . Duffy feels like the first love interest who amply understands how Reacher ticks , so it will be interesting to see how their relationship resolution in the season ’s finale .
