The movie – titledSuperman Lives – was going to feature Nicolas Cage as the last son of Krypton and would have learn classic villain Lex Luthor and Braniac teaming up to shoot down Superman . Pre - production had begun on the project when , alas ( or perhaps thankfully ) , it fell asunder . Superman would n’t regress to the big screen until Bryan Singer ’s 2006 aptly titledSuperman Returns .

The bleak and white nature of the photos does n’t give us any denotation as to the colors of theSuperman Livescostume , but the design for sure strays very far indeed from themore naturalistic takewe’re get withMan of Steel(as well as Singer ’s variation fromSuperman return ) . Rather than streamlining the suit to make it less exaggerated , the Burton design rather embraces the overtly cartoony muscle pure tone in the same way of life Michael Keaton ’s Batsuit did .
One can easy suspect that Burton would have apply a like tone and comic ledger fidelity to his take on Superman that he did to his 1989 version of the Dark Knight . Cage ’s suit here seems to support that theory , at least free-base on this newly - unveil pic .
However , the material question is whether or not fans would have been as centripetal to John Cage as Superman as they were to Keaton ’s Batman . It ’s easy to say now that John Cage would have been miscast as the character , but Keaton – who was easily known as a comedic actor at the clock time – was also criticized as a short choice for the part of Bruce Wayne / Batman .
After all , Cage afterwards get a chance to suit up as the Batman - esque superhero Big Daddy inKick Ass , a role which he pull off fairly well . On the other hand , he also starred in a pair of critically malignedGhost Riderfilms , meaning his running record for wager comical book heroes is less than stellar since missing his chance to play Superman .
Man of Steel – the belated big - concealment incarnation of the hero – hit dramaturgy on June 14 , 2013 .
