I was seek to fare up with a metaphor forJourney to the Center of the Earth 3D , and the perfect one came to listen :
Journey 3Dis like vanilla pud .
It was all right , not really dreaded or anything - but not something you would go out of your way to catch if there was something advantageously usable .
Really , I do n’t think I need to go into the plot of this pic too deeply - it ’s a well know fib and everyone should be familiar with either the Jules Verne novel or the 1959 version of the film star James Mason and Pat Boone . Here we have Brendan Fraser ( as Trevor Anderson ) flirt a prof of geology whose brother has vanished 10 class ago . thing are n’t live on well for him , with a oleaginous section head who is go to close down his lab , which is based on the study of Trevor ’s brother .
Trevor gets home to see that his widow sister - in - practice of law is drop of her son Sean ( Josh Hutcherson ) for 10 days while sher prepares thing for their move to Canada ( do n’t ask , there ’s no explanation ) . Trevor has no estimate how to pass on with a 13 yr old boy and predictably thing get off to a sour start .
Eventually they end up in Iceland at the room access of Hannah ( Anita Briem ) who acts as their guidebook to the mouth of an static volcano . As you know they of course end up plummeting to the " center of attention " of the Earth and I do n’t think I ’m spoiling anything by suppose they survive . :-)
The film is all about the journey , aptly enough , and the 3D visual effects . We ’ve got a T - Rex , giant Venus Flytraps , glowing hummingbirds , jumbo ocean snake and huge flying piranhas . Oh , and the obligatory mine aspect with a roller coaster - similar railway system path on which the transport carts ride .
There are a few scenes where they utilise " in your facial expression " 3D with things jumping out of the screen towards the audience , and from the sound of it folks watching the movie seemed to delight it . Again , I ’ll say that my favorite thing about 3D in moving-picture show is the depth of field it give scenes that adds a elusive " you are there " feel to the movie .
The best actor in the picture show was youthful Josh , with Anita coming in 2d . Brendan Fraser was , well , Brendan Fraser .
So as I say above : If you ’ve got kids 10 and under or if you ’re a rooter of 3D movies , go check it out . Otherwise take out the gimmick and you ’re basically leave with a cheesy made for TV movie .
