Clash of the Titans

Screen Rant reviewsClash of the Titans

I really want to make this a review ofClash of the Titansand not a harangue against post - production - utilize 3D , but considering how awful and distracting I detect the 3D - it ’s go to be difficult . I extremely recommend that if you go watch this film you do so in a steady old 2D intro . Please take that testimonial in earnest .

This remaking of the 1981 film is certainly less crummy than that Harry Hamlin - star interpretation . Now do n’t take that as a gibe of the original - I enjoyed the heck out of it when it was released , nor as high kudos of this version . However I did see it recently and it ’s not one of those picture that stands up to the trial of time - you really have to value it within the context of the time it was made .

Clash of the Titans Movie Poster

The story follow that of the original pretty closely , with Perseus ( Sam Worthington ) being found in a locked coffin at sea in the arms of his dead mother . He ’s take in by Spyros ( Pete Postlethwaite ) , a common fisherman and raised by him and his married woman to be a honest , backbreaking form man . Unfortunately Perseus ' family is caught in the crossfire of a battle between some soldiers and one of the gods ( Hades , play by Ralph Fiennes ) and they are all kill ( not really a spoiler , this happens very early on and his Perseus ' prime motivation throughout the film ) .

world is rise up against the god , and Zeus ( Liam Neeson ) , who created mankind is none to glad about it . Hades view an chance to regain power and convinces Zeus to allow the waiver of the fabled goliath the Kraken should a sacrifice of the world-beater ’s daughter not take place before the next solar eclipse . Perseus is recruited by the king to go on a pursuit that will result in his daughter ’s living being spared , and our hero is happy to comply for his own reasons of retaliation against Hades .

There are plenty of activity place pieces to keep audiences happy , including a conflict against not one , but three gargantuan Scorpion , a struggle against the grotesque Calibos ( Jason Flemyng ) , Medusa , and of course the Kraken . The non - CGI visual effects were great , and I have a go at it the look of the cinema overall when it came to the characters , costumes , etc . But the CGI was all over the map … Pegasus looked excellent , a   seamless blend of CGI wings with a live horse - but then you had Medusa , who look like she belonged in a intermediate degree video biz ( I vastly opt the discontinue - motion vitality version from the original cinema ) . The Kraken however , was epic . implausibly huge and Brobdingnagian in size and definitely formidable .

Clash of the Titans movie review

Oh , but the 3-D … freaking AWFUL .

come home here to find out just HOW awful the 3D inClash of the Titansis …

guess watch a end up of an histrion pitch a striking line … while the back part of his capitulum or hair seems to float , disconnected from the rest of his drumhead . Imagine watch a scene in 3D in which the " front " bed is dead apparently separated from the " back " stratum . 3D in which the visual deepness that they ’ve gone out of their means to flip on does n’t even stand out that much except to distract you by how obvious and tacked on it looks . The trope above can only estimate how terrible it looks .

clash of the titans 2 sequel wrath of the titans

The estimate to wrench this into a 3D moving picture wasa last minute decisionand the operation was pelt along - and boy does it come across on the concealment . Unless you ’re easily impressed with three-D and have n’t seen the the likes of ofAvatarorCoraline , then I can not recommend powerfully enough that you cut the 3D adaptation ofClash of the Titansand go watch it in standard 2D.

Hollywood has given us the fillet mignon of 3D visuals withAvatar , which was shot in three-D using country of the art 3-D cameras . So now that audience are sell on the idea , Hollywood is now pulling a bait and exchange by giving us a stinky McDonalds hamburger variation for the same inflated slate prices they charged for that filet . We ’ve told you about all the3D pic come out over the next duad of yearsand how they’rejacking up 3D ticket prices . If you want Hollywood to get away with offering a substandard experience at a premium price , then by all means , go take in these " slapped on " 3D variant of movies .

Minus the three-D , you ’ll probably findClash of the Titansto be a clean enjoyable legal action / adventure movie . warn for parents : Some of the creatures in the film are VERY creepy for PG-13 and will probably be unsettling to younger children . For the 2D edition I ’d belike tot up a half star and give this 3 out of 5 .
