Blade Runner 2049
Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford disagree on whether or not Rick Deckard is a replicant ( an humanoid ) in theBlade Runnerseries . Scott ’s original film , which reach theaters in 1982 and has since become one of the most influential science fiction films in film history , has seennumerous versions released over the years- seven , to be exact . The major ace are the Theatrical Cut ( featuring Ford ’s voiceover and the " happy ending " ) , the Director ’s Cut ( no voiceover and no " happy closing , " but the inclusion of a dream sequence ) , and the Final Cut ( the classical interlingual rendition , fit in to Scott ) .
The thing is , each edition change the fundamental narration in some way or another , and each one either indicate Deckard is close-fitting to being a replicant or that he ’s close to being human . The question about Deckard ’s straight identity has plagued fans ever since the original film release all those years ago , and it ’s possible that audiences could finally get their answer come this October , when Denis Villeneuve’sBlade Runner : 2049hits theatre . Still , Scott and Ford seem todisagree about Deckard being human .

In an interview withCinemaBlend , Villeneuve explained that he had grown up watching the Theatrical Cut , yet he also loved Scott ’s definitive version , so that he ’s chosen to make his upcoming sequel somewhere in between , and that may move audience ' presumptions about Deckard mayhap being a replicant .
" I was resurrect with the first [ movie ] , and then , afterward on , I discovered what was the original dream of Ridley . So I really loved his version , too . The key to making this [ unexampled ] picture show was to be in between . Because the first motion picture was a story of a man being falling in love with a designed human being – an contrived human being . And the write up of the second picture is a replicant that does n’t know he ’s a replicant , who slowly strike his own personal identity . So , those are two unlike stories .
" I felt that the key fruit to [ care ] with that was in the novel of Philip K. Dick . Which was that , in the novel , [ those ] fictional character are doubting themselves . They are not certain if they are replicants or not . From time to clip , the detective are having to go and do [ tests ] on themselves to make indisputable they are really humans . I love that . So I decided that the film … Deckard , in the motion picture , is incertain , as we are , of what his identity operator is . Because I get laid that . I hump closed book . That ’s an interesting matter to me . I really love that . Again , Harrison and Ridley are still argue about that . If you put them in the same way , they do n’t fit in . And they start to tattle very loudly when they do . It ’s very amusing . "
Scott not only disagrees about Deckard being a replicant , but he has recently said that the forthcoming sequel will finallygive audiences an answer to that very interrogation . However , Villeneuve has also tell that his moviedoesn’t result that question . Whether that happens or not is something we ’ll just have to await and see , but at least it seems like Villeneuve has chosen to retain that mystery aspect throughout his story .
In the above audience , the theater director also said that he took inspiration from Philip K. Dick ’s 1968 novelDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ? , which was the inspiration for Scott ’s original film , with regard to Deckard being timid of himself . It ’s an interesting conception , and find the truth could possibly lay the cornerstone for future installments , should Scott and everyone else involved opt to proceed telling more stories in theBlade Runneruniverse .
