Avengers: Infinity War
The rumor that Anthony and Joe Russo - directors ofCaptain America : The Winter Soldierand next year’sCaptain America : Civil War- are all but rig to helmThe Avengers : Infinity War - Part 1 & 2started making the rounds even before Marvel Studios had announced thatAvengers 3andAvengers 4would take on the manakin ofa two - part adaptation- one that will contain elements from the " Infinity War " and " Infinity Gauntlet " comic book storylines , by the sound of it .
eternity Waris when the ' harebrained Titan ' himself , Thanos - as fetch to life by Josh Brolin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and his seeking to take ascendance of all six Infinity Gems ( via his Infinity Gauntlet ) will move to the forefront , after having been gradually develop over multiple films , beginning back in Phase 1 of the MCU . It will be a vast upshot , in other word , and has the potential to easily fill out the running time of twoAvengersmovies - so , it would make sense for Marvel to enter not just one , but two of its accomplished partner in crime to handle the job , too .
The downside of thisInfinity Warrumor , of course , is it think of no Joss Whedon in the director ’s chair , after he write and directedThe Avengers- a corner part smash and favorite with critics and sports fan likewise - and this year ’s sequelAvengers : Age of Ultron , which could well play off or outstrip its forerunner ’s accomplishment .

This is the first time Whedon has point out on the idea of him aim theInfinity Warfilms since they were officially announced . It makes sense that he would want to step back a bit at this microscope stage , tonic off having serve as one of the MCU ’s principal creative architects through its 2nd phase - let in , writing / organise twoAvengersmovies and co - creating theAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.TV serial - and get back to work on small , original projects of his own design . ( That recollective - rumoredDr . Horrible ’s Sing - Along Blogsequel could even be among them … )

Then again , there ’s no intellect Whedon can not still be involved with , say , helping to craft the scripts for the third and fourthAvengersinstallments , even if he pass on carry the helm . Writing has always been Whedon ’s strength as a storyteller anyway , more so than his work as a director - though , he ’s clearly stepped up his game forAge of Ultron- and even if Joss does n’t service as the sole writer on theInfinity Warmovies , they could certainly use his help ( given how many different plot and eccentric thread those films will have to tie together ) .
Meanwhile , the Russos have arguably been responsible for the best filmmaking in the MCU to date , between the modern - day political thrills offer byThe Winter Soldierand the 1940s flesh throwback vogue of their work on theAgent Carterlimited series - and chance are , their horse sense of moviemaking craftsmanship will only continue to meliorate , once they ’ve complete work onCivil Warin 2016 , preparing them to tackle a MCU plot line that ’s even bigger in oscilloscope and stakes . ShouldInfinity War - Part 1 & 2combine these effect ( with the Russos direct from playscript co - penned by Whedon ) , that could be an idealistic outcome for everyone postulate .

However , even though the signs presently point tothe Russos aim theInfinity Warmovies , for the prison term being no deal has been officially struck . likewise , there has been no indication yet that Whedon is being eyed to publish these films - much less , that he ’s necessarily interested in the line of work . There ’s still very much room for another originative voice to maltreat in and help guide the screenwriting unconscious process on the third and fourthAvengersinstallments , instead .
That said : Marvel Studios distinctly prefers to draw from in - house talent ( having found great success in doing so thus far ) - and Whedon has made it every bit clear , he does n’t destine to leave his Marvel days behind him ( not altogether , anyway ) just yet . So do n’t be surprised if Joss ends up playing a role in the tattle of the cinematic Infinity War , in turn of events paving the path for the most accomplished endowment on the Marvel filmmaking roll to join forces for this major venture .
